Root textile demonstrates bio-design in its simplest terms. As the wheatgrass seeds sprout their root binds below to form a naturally woven structure. Wheatgrass root is cultivated in delicately carved, natural beeswax templates to create textures of marine coral sea fans. The root runs through the templates and takes the form of the templates it grows on.
This piece was cultivated over two weeks and naturally dyed with the Coreopsis plant. It’s mounted on fine copper wire and suspended from the ceiling with monofilament to fasten invisibly from above, allowing the piece to ‘float’ against a wall.
