Inspired by microscopic sea organisms called diatoms, Zena Holloway creates and designs lamps that take on unique organic structures. She uses overlapping root textiles, that she grows from seed, to encase the light source and produce a glow reminiscent of bioluminescent marine life.
Woven by Nature
Grass root is cultivated on intricately carved, natural beeswax templates, allowing it to assume the shape of the templates as it grows. The fibres intertwine with each other, creating a woven, robust, textile and demonstrates how new materials can be designed using natural processes and living organisms.

Technical Info
Lights are supplied with a two-and-a-half-meter black cotton-covered cable with an on/off switch.
(An alternative, pale jute-covered cable is available on request)
The lamp is fitted with an E14 screw fitting, supplied with Osram warm white LED bulb (2700k), 7W (equivalent to 60W halogen), dimmable with a 15,000-hour life span (almost 2 years of continuous light) 3-year guarantee, LEDVANCE energy rating E
Keep the root shade at least 3cm away from a bare bulb.
Not suitable for incandescent, compact fluorescent or halogen lightbulbs. Do not exceed 5 watts
Not suitable for use in damp conditions.
Do not cover.

Care
Root textile is a natural fibre and, like a straw hat or a linen cloth, will last for many years if kept from the elements.
Any settled dust can be removed using a vacuum on a low suction setting or dusted with a soft brush.
